This is a new very high quality reproduction thumb screw. This is for the very early M38A1. (1952-53) These hold the cowl mounted battery box lid down. The early box cover has four hooks on each side which hook into the thumb screws. Of course you tighten the thumb screws down and it locks the box cover in position.
