This is an original WWII US made NOS deep mud muffler. This is the real thing. These mufflers were used to replace the side outlet style used on the early production MB and GPW. The side outlet style was very bad about caking up with dried mud and pulling off. They were also bad about pulling off if the jeep got stuck and had to be pulled out.
