The fun thing about VWs is that the only thing holding your rear drum is a big castle nut and the only thing keeping that nut in place outside of what it's torqued to is a small cotter pin. Without that cotter pin the axle nut can back it's way off and your brake drum, with the wheel and tire attached, can fall off (and that's not hyperbole - it actually happens). So...
